slumber

Filed under: A poem begins in delight and ends in wisdom.,Uncategorized — sathya84 @ 2:42 pm

on something i’m so fascinated by as a phenomenon and so indulgent in, as an activity…slumber…

lying in bed waiting for her to come
in anticipation of the journey home
an experience transcending the horizon
the glimpse of an unvanquished kingdom

lost in the reminiscence of the day that hath been
i sense the footfalls of the queen
in her bright robes and crystal sequine
she still manages not to be seen

as her invisible fingers clasp mine
my senses fade in the dark sunshine
a strange sensation stronger than wine
makes me wonder whether im blind

we are in a netherworld in a flashing gleam
where dream is reality and reality a dream
where friends long dead come alive
and the bodies of the living float astream

i look at the queen, she smiles at me
here forever i want to be
that may’nt be, the queen she says
son, you are real but not this place

as she escorts me to where we started
back to the reality which we parted
sweat and toil and pledge all i earn
oh the queen, if only she’d return
